Like other areas in beekeeping, with pests and pathogens, we try to keep things simple and use what we have found works best in our area. There are other options available, but rotating among the organic versions along with Apivar have proven to be an effect method to keep mite in check for the most part, with the occasional exception.
We have found that quarterly treatments is a solid preventative maintenance schedule, but we still like to check in between quarters and treat as needed.
