Free Bee Safety Presentations for Clubs, Organizations, and Community Groups
The Bee Place offers two free educational presentation formats: Bee Safety for the Public and Beekeeper Safety and Responsibility. Because each presentation requires preparation, scheduling, and travel, private hosted programs are reserved for established groups that meet the general requirements below. The presentation format can be adapted to the equipment available at the venue.
Two Ways to Participate
Host a Presentation for Your Group
We generally schedule private hosted presentations for clubs, organizations, agencies, associations, schools, businesses, and community groups expecting at least 20 participants.
Some flexibility may be considered for smaller groups when the audience or purpose provides meaningful public-safety value. Examples may include emergency responders, school personnel, outdoor-worker teams, animal-care professionals, municipal employees, or other groups whose work places them or the public at increased risk.
Attend a Scheduled Public Presentation
Individuals, families, and smaller clubs or groups are welcome to attend one of the public presentations periodically hosted by The Bee Place. These classes may be held at our location or at another local hall or venue selected by us. This allows smaller groups to receive the same important information without requiring a separate private presentation.
Dates, locations, presentation formats, and registration instructions will be posted on this page as public classes are scheduled. Registration may be required and seating may be limited.

Requirements for Hosting a Free Presentation
- Approximately 20 or more expected participants
- A suitable indoor or covered meeting location
- Adequate seating for the expected audience
- Audiovisual equipment for the full multimedia presentation, when available
- A host responsible for local promotion, attendance, and any necessary registration
- A location generally within approximately 40 miles of downtown San Antonio
- A mutually acceptable date, subject to our seasonal workload and availability
Free presentations are generally available within approximately 40 miles of downtown San Antonio. Locations more than about 30 minutes from downtown San Antonio may require a modest travel fee to help cover mileage and travel time. Availability and any travel charge will be discussed and agreed upon before a presentation is scheduled.
These are educational presentations using photographs, video, protective equipment, and real-world examples. Presentations for the general public normally do not include live bees. Beekeeper presentations are adapted to the knowledge and responsibilities of the audience.
Presentation Equipment and Materials
For the full multimedia presentation, we ask the host to provide a compatible computer or laptop, projector or large display, screen, and suitable sound system. The equipment should be capable of playing a PowerPoint presentation and video supplied on a USB thumb drive. The Bee Place supplies the presentation materials but does not normally provide the computer, projector, screen, or sound system.
If this equipment is not available, please contact us. We may still be able to provide a modified presentation using discussion, educational props, protective equipment, and other available materials. A lack of audiovisual equipment does not automatically disqualify a group from receiving a presentation. If planned equipment is unavailable or incompatible on the day of the event, the program may continue in a modified non-multimedia format.
When audiovisual equipment will be used, the host should confirm in advance that the venue computer can accept the USB presentation and play its photographs, PowerPoint slides, and video with sound. Access to the meeting room at least 30 minutes before the presentation is requested for setup and equipment testing.
The Bee Place may provide educational props, protective veils, photographs, videos, and other demonstration materials appropriate for the audience. Live bees and observation hives are not included unless specifically discussed and approved in advance.
Scheduling and Host Responsibilities
- The host is responsible for the venue, seating, local promotion, attendance, supervision of children, and any required permissions.
- Expected attendance must be confirmed before the event. If attendance falls substantially below the agreed number, we may recommend that the group attend a scheduled public presentation or that the private presentation be rescheduled.
- Presentations may be postponed or rescheduled because of severe weather, illness, bee emergencies, or seasonal beekeeping demands.
- Free means there is no speaking fee. Any agreed travel charge and venue-related expenses are separate.
- Recording, broadcasting, or livestreaming the presentation requires advance permission from The Bee Place.
Presentations are educational and do not replace emergency services, medical advice, pest-control services, or an on-site professional assessment. General information about honey bees, pollination, and responsible beekeeping may be included, but every program will retain an appropriate safety message about recognizing dangerous defensive behavior and the importance of keeping gentle, manageable bees.

The presentation below was prepared for the Hill Country Beekeepers Association and was intended for a beekeeper audience. Presentations for community groups and the general public are adapted for people who do not keep bees.
This recording currently includes approximately ten minutes of club business and a discussion about frames before the Beekeeper Safety presentation begins. It will be replaced with a trimmed version when our own edited copy is available.

Please be prepared to provide the organization or group name, contact person, proposed location, expected attendance, type of audience, available presentation equipment, and preferred time of year.
Submitting a request does not place a presentation on the calendar. We will first discuss the audience, location, and presentation needs. Approved hosts will then receive private scheduling instructions.
